The best programmer I have ever personally known once said to me, "Jake,
why is it that every manager I've ever had, I ended up coming to the
conclusion that they were a moron?" My own experience has been a little less
consistent than that, but the question remains a good one. A related
question oftened asked here on non-tech is why managers don't choose Delphi
more often, with the ready-made answer quick to follow that it is because
they are idiots. I don't agree with that kind of religious ritual that seems
to get repeated ad nauseum here, but I can find plenty of reasons to
conclude that most, or at least a lot, of companies are not any good at
managing software development. I've blogged on this topic, and I'd be
interested in hearing other people's opinions and experiences in this
