Visual vs. Traditional Languages

Hi guys,

There's a simple question that's getting around my mind all the time. Visual
programming languages.
Are they making any sense in your opinion?
For what could they be used?
Where are they better than traditional text languages?
Isn't there a real, standardized or wider used visual programming language?
If yes - where?
How would the IDE for building the 'visual' code have to look like? Not sure
if simple workflow's would help here much for complex statements..

Well, these are just a few questions that are coming into my mind, maybe
someone can enlighten me on some of them..
