Installing windows first is simpler.
While installing windows leave unpartitioned space for linux.
Windows installs its boot loader in the MBR (master boot record).
Then install linux.
When (if) your linux distribution installer asks you to install a
linux boot loader (say LILO) you have different choices.
1) Simplest solution: install LILO in the MBR
If you install LILO in the MBR you lose the windows boot loader.
But, usually LILO boots windows without problems: you need simply to
add the windows entry in /etc/lilo.conf in linux and then run command
"lilo"; usually the windows entry is added automatically by the linux
installer if
a bootable windows is detected on an hard disk)
2) More intricated: install LILO in first sector of a linux partition
This require you config the windows boot loader (boot.ini) to start
linux
through a special file containing a "linux boot image" (search google
and find how to make this image)
Both methods works. I use 2) no more since LILO is simpler and linux
is my "MAIN" os
bye
