Hi
Wanted to share my impressions about VS 2005. I have been on a demo of the
subject in Stockholm and I am definitly impressed by what I saw.
1. The IDE seems to be *very* lite. It loads very fast and seems very
responsive. They explained the plugins, components, etc are loaded in a
background thread so you can just begin code right on.
2. Refactoring. The new IDE has also refactoring, and it takes it a step
beyond: it has the Extract Method, Encapsulate Field (very nice), Extract
Interface, and *many* more.
3. The best thing I saw: Visual class designer "Whitehorse". The Class
Designer does more than just produce UML diagrams from existing classes: it
will let you design and edit classes in UML with the results being reflected
in your source code. Finally, you can use Class Designer to refactor class
elements (methods and parameters), override methods, implement interfaces
and move members from one class to another. In this session, we'll start
with an overview of the benefits of class design with UML, and follow by
exploring the features of the VS2005 Class Designer. A **great thing*.
4. Can produce Win64 code , Win32 code, .Net assemblies, Compact Frameworks,
exec for Windows CE, you name it...
5. FULL integration with SQL 2005 includej the NEW SQL Server Reporting
Services / Crystal Reports (which by the way is a**HOT***)
6. There will possible be another public beta before the final release.
I only wish there was a pascal personality to this beauty.
