The Galileo IDE

The fact that Borland has now been working on the Galileo (ex-SideWinder)
IDE for more than 2 years and through 3 major product releases, while it
still - after D2005 Sp1 - seems to be every bit as unstable and resource
hogging (slow) as D8 was, strongly suggests to me that there's a
fundamental design flaw nested in there somewhere.

It is symptomatic that the D2005 IDE immiediately sent people chasing
ways to "strip-down" the IDE. When I first saw JED's "DCM" tool I thought
it was for selecting installed Component packages. But no, it has become
a popular tool for customising the basic IDE installation to get rid of
any and all unwanted/unneeded packages, not only because they hog
resources but also because they're buggy and blow big holes in people's
productivity.
This situation smells of so much desperation, never came across it on
such a scale for any previous Delphi release.

The other big question is, how can Borland have signed off such a buggy
product? The AV's are not just here and there, they're everywhere. It's
really embarrassing, as if it were a beta of its kind, and SP1 doesn't
seem to have improved things enough by far. Borland, don't expect to see
my company's 5-Pro-licenses order for D2005 before a generally applauded
SP2 is out.
