I don't underestimate anybody's intelligence - except somebody who thinks he
knows how long I have spent thinking about anything. You are a dentist
Rudy, I work as a programmer for a living, both in my day job, and as a
fairly succesful consultant on the side. I spend a hell of a lot of time
working with computers.

Are you telling me that the people writing to Java or .NET are "more
intelligent" than the people who were writing VB last year? A lot of
corporate shops are moving over to .NET because it MS. The same people who
were writing mediocre VB apps last year are now writing .NET apps. If
you're talking about the people who actually wrote the .NET and Java
platforms,. then that's a different matter - most of these are advanced
programmers.

I'm not arguing that the GC concept is bad or flawed - go back and re-read
my message. What I'm saying is that there are a lot of mediocre programmers
out there who've written bad code for years, and now that .NET comes along
with claims that the GC will save the guy from memory leak hell, these
mediocre programmers will concentrate even less on crafting careful code.
If you've actually worked in the software business, alongside other
programmers, you would know that there are a hell of a lot of people writing
code in corporate environments who should definitely find a different
carreer.
