Yes, but you are probably look at diminishing returns. If chips are getting
more complex to beat Moores law by having dual cores and the like, then the
software that runs on them will probably have to follow to reflect that. In
other words, recompiling for 64 bit may be simpler, but all sorts of more
complex software effects will be more effective.
