Hi Everyone.
I have been having some interesting back and forth with Allen and Danny
on their blogs about the chances of Borland considering non Microsoft
mobile platforms. Here is the link.
http://blogs.borland.com/abauer/archive/2005/03/21/3320.aspx
Borland are currently deciding if they should port VCL to .NET CF.
I have asked the question "what about non-ms platforms". Currently
Symbian deployment is way ahead of Microsoft on Smart-Phones and is
expected to be shipping 100 Million units in 2007 compared to 20
Million units of Windows Mobile (CF)
I am a European so I should declare a bias, but I believe Europe is
leading the US in mobile technology and deployment and therefore I feel
that Borland may on this issue, want to take the lead from outside the
US.
The Mobile platform wars are hotting up and I cannot see the big Phone
Manuf's letting Microsoft control the platform. Nokia are big symbian
backers and they know where the battle ground is.
So simple question to everyone.
What should Borland's Priority be with regard to Mobile/Smart Phones
and Delphi?
1.) Only Microsoft
2.) X-Platform with the top three taking equal priority
3.) Symbian first and then support for others to follow
Could everyone who has an interest reply to this and state the
preference and also where they are based (US or Europe)
Please do not let this spiral into a technical feasibility debate, this
is purely a market-led question.
Crossfire from appforge allow a single .net code base to target
multiple mobile platforms. I use it and it works well. So it can be
done.
But I would love to use Delphi instead.
Regards Peter
