I won't visit the newsgroups every day, but to ignore them would be
inappropriate. The only way to know a market is to study it, and to
interact with it from as many aspects as possible. A personal
experience is essential. Since we are all finite beings, a personal
experience is by definition limited, and so ways to aggregate the
experiences of customers, prospective customers, the customers of
competitors, and others who will never be any vendor's customers is also
important.
Sales and marketing are quite different, BTW.
