Other than your own memory of what you now perceive as Microsoft's message of a
few years ago can you provide any creditable references to substantiate Thomas'
claim that "SQL Server was going to be a .Net app"?
In the beginning Microsoft's "explanation" of their .NET strategy was so
confusing that few if any (and certainly not me) really understood what
they were describing but I sure don't recall they ever saying that SQL Server
was going to be rewritten to be a .NET app. At that time of the original
announcement, Microsoft called damn near everything .NET,
Heck I'm willing to bet that someone even named their cute little puppy .NET
rather than SPOT - which much later became the name of Microsoft's wireless
watch but nevertheless managed to get associated with being a dog.<g>
