She unfortunately has leukemia and it sounds like she has had a really bad time.

I have worked in pediatric oncology and she seems to have a far
worse time than most patients I have dealt with: failed stem cell harvest,
jugular vein thrombosis etc.

I am not sure how she is financially, perhaps we could even chip in some
money for her if it could be arranged discretely and without offending
her. If someone was enterprising enough to arrange something,
I would be happy to chip in $100.

And perhaps the newsgroup could organize some sort of
collectively signed "best wishes" ecard ?
