At the severe risk of pushing his comment out of context, is programming as a career not that good?
I understand that thing we do as hobbies do not always make for good jobs as they change from being purely enjoyable to serious business. Not to mention that you lose some of the control over what you do.
However, is it still a good job? I find myself more and more considering moving to it as a profession (particularly at the moment) so this thread all of a sudden caught my eye!
