Re: D6 to D2006 (Win32 Only)

I would suggest you first to download trial version as soon as it is released and test how much it will bring as improvement to your work. Then you can decide by your self.

I see lots of changes in 2005 compared to 6 so probably there will be much more when you compare 6 to 2006.

I am curious what many of you think would be the primary arguments to upgrade from D6 to D2006. We currently are only doing Win32 development and we have several Enterprise copies of Delphi 6. Dot Net development is probably still 1-3 years out for us, if we do it at all. And as for web development, we currently use D6 just fine by developing the soap server side and we have ASP/php developers for the web side. This has worked extremely well.

The upgrade cost to D2006 would be substantial because we would have to upgrade several expensive components that require a purchased upgrade to get to D2005/6. In addition to the time involved, I'm guessing about $5000/copy including components.

So with that in mind, what would be your primary arguments? I realize there are IDE improvements, but a lot of that could probably be solved with 3rd party IDE experts.

Thanks!
