Dear Worried,
Blow it out - with compressed air that is.
I have a Sager laptop. Pentium 4, 3.06 GHz, 60 MB 7200 RPM drive
and 1 GB RAM. It's almost three years old. I noticed that after
having it for a year or so it would shutdown during some heavy
duty work. Building our product for example, with nearly 1600
modules. It was shutting down due to overheating.
So, now, every four-six months, I take the cooling fan grills off
and take it out to the garage. I have a small air compressor
there. I blow it out as thoroughly as possible. You should see
the dust bunnies! I put the grill back on and fire it up. It's
running cool and happy again.
You'd be amazed how much junk accumulates in there. If you don't
have a compressor, try a garage. They usually have a compressed
air hose with a nozzle on it. 30-40 PSI should do it.
Good luck,
- Arnie
.
