Dog Day Afternoons

I have a very fierce assistant of the Dobermann variety.

She is not afraid of burglars, fireworks or thunderstorms, but rain
always has her trying to hide under my desk.

The first thing she always does (after climbing under my desk) is turn
my computer off.

I don't know how she does it. I have the usual rat's nest of wires
behind my desk driving my stereo, umpteen wallwarts for USB devices, my
cellphone's cradle, and several EFTPOS devices.

Apart from the fact that it seems difficult to fit a large dog under a
desk, does anyone have any idea how such an animal could do this?

I thought that the Windows API group would be the best place to look,
but I reckon they would just make fun of me.

The dog doesn't pull the plug, she shuts the computer down!

Everything requiring power continues to run. Even my computer will
start up again if I punch the power button.

I'm beginning to think that there is a hardware interface called
ShutThisThingOffAndPayAttentionToMe which I would like to encapsulate in
a Delphi component if only I could figure out what it does.

Do you know?
