Apart from the fact that it seems difficult to fit a large dog under a desk, does anyone have any idea how such an animal could do this?

I thought that the Windows API group would be the best place to look, but I reckon they would just make fun of me. 

  The dog doesn't pull the plug, she shuts the computer down!

Everything requiring power continues to run. Even my computer will start up again if I punch the power button.

I'm beginning to think that there is a hardware interface called ShutThisThingOffAndPayAttentionToMe which I would like to encapsulate in a Delphi component if only I could figure out what it does.

First of all you are refering to her as a Doberman.Please refer her properly as Doberwoman.Having lost my Doberwoman two years back I am very aware of a Doberwoman's feelings.Take her into your confidence & every thing will be alright.
I had even named her Delphi & she was very happy.May be you can rename her & soothe her feelings
