When I add this to David I's post, all becomes much clearer.
In essence, it means that NewDevCo can be anything, the first decision may even be ditching Delphi, because you all have to obey the "money talks" law.
It would be foolish to think that we KNOW what will happen tomorrow.
You can only have wishes and PLANS, but only time will show.
Hm? This is a blue print of JK's post :)
For all we know, a plane could crash on top of the Borland building.
I guess, that's what John tried to say.
It is not how I read it.
And since this kind of conversation has been going for several years now, while Delphi is still alive and kicking (with hundreds of thousands of active users), I think it's time we show some faith.
I am showing faith, I have started a new project, the client will be developed in Delphi.
To me, it is important to be realistic. I don't know what business experiences you have, but my experiences have taught me that promises without any ties to obligations often are expressions of peoples wishes, and often will remain so the day it starts to rain.
The prevalent consensus of this, here in the news group at least, is that the IDE div can select a buyer from the upper shelf, a buyer that will fulfil the IDE div's wishes. In reality, as JK also says, it is up to the buyer's intent what will happen after splitting up from Borland.
The only thing that would be interesting to know, and that they not will let us know at this stage, would be what constraints and conditions that Borland would bake into the deal.
BTW 1: Being realistic is not being negative.
BTW 2: Ein Optimist ist in der Regel ein Zeitgenosse der ungenügend informiert ist (Joseph Priestly) ;-)
