Re: What will happen?

Don't forget, that for $1000 +/-, you can now get MSDN Professional which
includes Office, Back Office Server, Visual Studio Premium, MSDN Library,
SQL Server, All versions of Windows, and quite a bit more... plus all

Check your license on that. At one time the license was only good for the
year. That is, it wasn't just a "permanent" license with a year's worth of
support... in a year you were supposed to uninstall if you didn't renew.

Dunno if it's still that way or not. They caught some heat on that
provision from insiders pretty quickly.

Just for comparison, price from competing products from my dealer

Visual Studio Pro 2005 Win32 English CD/DVD 820.51$

Delphi 2006 New User Professional 1090$

Probably cheaper products are poor....is it not?

By the way - difference (1090 - 820) 270$ is good monthly income in some
countries like Brazil (which have a good Delphi community)

Don't forget, that for $1000 +/-, you can now get MSDN Professional which
includes Office, Back Office Server, Visual Studio Premium, MSDN Library,
SQL Server, All versions of Windows, and quite a bit more... plus all
updates and new releases for 1 year... for about $1,800... get it for two
years... for about $1,800 on EBay, get a higher level MSDN subscription
with a Team edition (for me the Developer edition) for two years. At
least that's what I did a few months ago.

Still, a much better bargain that the BDS... though I will admit, my
previous gripe about a year and before was that you only get one Borlan
tool, now you get 3 of them (but still not JBuilder with BDS). Now you
do. That's much better. But MS tools put the bread on my table and
Borland does. I work with about 17 other developers who really like
Borland tools and over the last 3 years working there we always talk about
the new releases but most people who work there who pay for their own
tools for what they do on their own non-company related time always
puchased an MSDN and never a Borland tool only the the merits of price,
despite how cool we think the tools are/appear to be. That tells a lot.

Perhaps we just never were their market. After all, we'll use the tools
at home that we use and get paid to use all day at work. Though, I'm a
C++Builder fan, even so, VC++ has always been good enough concidering I
get it "free" with my $1,800/yr. MSDN subscription for the past 6 years.
The last Borland tool I puchased was C++Builder 4 only because it was the
Academic edition. I'm a student again now, the BDS Enterprise is looking
tempting at $400 and since I don't do professional development with it at
work or home, I think it'll be fine... but still, I'm not ready for it.
Too many other more important things career related that I'm putting my
money into lately.

Thanks,
Shawn
