Thanks. When I posted, I'd thought JEDI, JCL and JVCL are same; but with different links, they are quite hard to understand. I came across JEDI when I was searching for Delphi components.

Then a bit of clarification is required.

JEDI is the Joint Endeavour of Delphi Innovators, a group of individuals gathered together working on different projects, all open source, all for Delphi, C++ Builder, Kylix and/or FPC (FreePascal).

JCL is the JEDI Code Library, one of the JEDI Projects. It contains classes and functions used to extend those in Delphi, and it serves as the basis for other projects. It does not contain any components to install, but proposes "experts" such as the JCL Debug expert that you already know about. More details on http://homepages.borland.com/jedi/jcl/

JVCL is the JEDI Visual Component Library, named after Borland's VCL. It contains additional components (about 600) that either extend original components functionnalities or propose brand new functionnalities (such as WebCam capture for instance). It requires the JCL to be installed first in order to get installed. More details on http://homepages.borland.com/jedi/jvcl/

JEDI has many other projects such as Jedi MATH, Jedi VCS, Jedi API...

Of course the JCL should be adopted.
If it is good enough for Borland then it is good enough for everyone else :-)

I see. I'd thought, JEDI is an open source effort.

Yes, it is. It uses the MPL licence which allows it to be used in closed source applications, provided it is mentionned in the documentation. This is exactly what Borland has been doing in their products.
