"...Microsoft appears to have concentrated their development effort inVista on
native code development..."
"...Microsoft has lost its confidence in .NET..."
Having watched several of the channel9 videos on vista and doing a fair bit
of reading, I got to say I'm fairly eager to use Vista, it looks like quite
a bit a work/overhauling was done to the core of windows and helps explain
all the delays. Based off of everything I've seen and read I'm not surprised
at the "retreat" of .net in vista, I don't think there was time, considering
that .net 2.0 was released so shortly ago to port the code. Also I'm not
sure that even .net 2.0 has the necessary requirements to do OS level
coding(I've never written a .net app). I do think that we'll see a number of
..net apps on vista and they'll continue to push it, but their vision got
delayed and we probably won't see an OS built around it until .net 3 or 4 is
out, and even then it'll be a wrapper around native code, at least all
kernel level stuff.
On the other hand a possible conspiracy theory could be that the .net
framework was a distraction to help keep developers from jumping ship to
other platforms, and buy MS some time to get vista and related technologies
out the door.
