Sure. And a deterrent to buy the product to begin with.

True. All activation is, is paranoia. It's the company basically
saying "I don't trust anybody, anybody and everybody is a thief that
will steal my software." Activation in itself is an accusation of
ill-will against the customer - especially for a development tool
(consider most programmers are going to KNOW the value and time that
was placed into it and by that nature alone be more cognizant of the
value of the tool they're getting from Borland).

As for me, activation is just a big deterrent against considering the
product to begin with.
