Not in this case :-) The term seems more recent than transportation days. No-one is 100% sure though.

One of the derivations is from pomme de terre, which also seems to have no supporting evidence. Certainly all my old relatives (my maternal grandparents were born in the 19th century) subscribed to the pomegranate theory (which doesn't make it true either).

and now you tell me it all has to do with their being from Redmond.<G>
