In article <xn0el69sh2wtlaa010@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>,
liz_wants_no_spam@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says...
because no company is going to announce its next update when half the
poeple here still dont even seem to have noticed its out..
Don't you see that as part of the problem? No wonder people are asking
when the "Next Update" is going to be available if they haven't been
notified that there is one available right now.
I get timely notifications of updates to tools and software costing a
handful of $$'s. So how come this update to a tool costing many, many
times as much has caught so many licensed users by surprise?
How would you feel if your customers on being handed a set of updates
you slaved over barely had the disk in their hands before they said
"and whens the next one we dont like this"?
Happens all the time.
:D
Why? Because our customers know a bit about the soft dev process too.
Not as much as we all do, but some.
Borland/DevCo know what issues they have addressed in Update #2. They
also know which existing issues have NOT been addressed, and I would be
very surprised if they do not know what, at a minimum, will be included
in Update #3.
In fact, I would expect that work on Update #3 has already started, with
at least an estimate in place.
So whilst I would not expect to be given a fixed date on which to expect
the next Update, it might not be unreasonable to have some -idea-.
i.e. are Borland/DevCo planning to make Update #3 a major update
addressing some significant QC issues entailing 6+ months of work. Or
will it be a further incremental update, chipping away at the QC to do
list, which might be expected in 3 months?
I would be especially interested if a QC issue that was causing me
problems was listed as fixed in this Update but is still present and
causing me problems.
For the record - I don't have BDS 2006 myself so I don't really care one
way or the other about BDS 2006 Updates. My D7 is working very nicely
thank you.
