If people can plunk down $350 for a digital point and shoot for
their vacation photos they should have no problem paying
the same for Delphi.

Sweet hobby spot is about $0 again, for a very rich IDE, like it was in
the era of D6 Personal, or almost $0 like for D5 Standard, but nowadays,
free/almost-free IDEs are thanks to MS and VS Express (how the tables have
turned...).

ITA. It's not that I'm trying to "bash" Borland, I am not. But as someone
who has [and probably will] pay [paid] for many Borland products it seems
unacceptable to get such performance/quality out of such an expensive buy.
And it's not really the performance/quality; it's how they handle it.
They've handled it terribly. As I've stated, they have been delivering
sub-par products since they entered the Windows development tool race.

I save paychecks to buy these tools, when there are free alternatives. I
like the idea behind their development tools. I don't like their methods of
fixing [seemingly inevitable] problems.

(actually, it requires research just to be aware Delphi *exists* for the
student/hobby population at large).

Half of the people at my school don't even know who/what Borland is. In
fact my school has a partnership with MS so all the students get
Professional versions for free if they are Computer Science majors. Same
thing goes for Office, Project, Visio, etc. etc.

There was once a day when you went Borland if you couldn't afford to shell
out/save paychecks to buy programming tools; or wanted to do
hobbyist/shareware programming. Heh. Those days are over; and better
support/fixes come with the cheaper alternatives anyways.
