onI think their point was that either way they are putting through a
sale and the payment gateway does the same work (one electronic
transaction). In one case they get paid 40c, in the other $40. For
doing exactly the same thing.
So if you sell more expensive products, you pay more per transaction
- for the same job done (one credit card payment received and
processed).
Well that's kind of how percentages work! If you carry a balance of $100
your credit card, you'll pay a lot less than if you carry $1000, thecredit
company isn't doing any more work there either to process your account. I
don't know why one company is being centered out for such a thing, it has
got to be the most common way of charging for services there is - interest
rates, taxes, royalties, all are based on percentages.
Um, I don't see the point of stating that a percentage is a percentage. It
seems to be kind of obvious - and missing the point.
The point here is psychology from the IT vendors point of view. Someone with
100 orders at 1/100th the price gets the same amount of $$ going through the
payment gateway - but then that service did 100 times more work: it
processed 100 orders.
In each transaction (small or big) they get exactly the same thing done -
they get a transaction for one order processed and paid for. But the guy
with the larger orders pays much more per order, for exactly the same effort
from the gateway provider.
