C# is a good job option for sheep. So are Java, and VB.net.
On the other hand, there is quite a lot of work around for those skilled in C# and Java. It is certainly not a silly option to learn them.
By saying that C# is for sheep, I mean that there is a large
perception in the world, that if everyone uses Excel for spreadsheets,
then you should buy Excel. If everyone else in the world is using
Java, then you should use Java.
Which is why there are so many more jobs available, of course.
If the OP is looking for future job security in an unstable job market, then the more skills the better. I do think it important that they actually be skills (eg I've programmed in Java but I'm not a skilled Java programmer). If he has the opportunity to be paid to learn something new, then if he has any interest in it, I would say go for it.
Cheers,
Jim Cooper
