Ron,
I wouldn't go as far as what others suggest of not worrying about it. I
think minimal preventions should be taken. What is important to control
is not the actual license, as much as the number of licenses, i.e. they
purchase your application once and use it 10 times. If you need to
control usage, by terms of concurrent licenses, etc. then you should
definitely look into something. That I can guarantee will increase your
revenue. I've been involved in various commercial products that as soon
as we built in "license concurrency control", we suddenly had old
customers purchase site licenses.
As for what to use, I would go with a custom solution. An asymmetric
algorithm works best (and IMHO should be the only one built in for
licensing).
