Other authors may use a lot of space inside1000
their book with big sourcecode snippets just to make the book hit over
pages. I'm sure, if Jon wanted that he could have done the same. But youget
all sourcecode separate, and he uses as little as possible of thebookspace
to print any sourcecode. It's a lot better with compact information in 600
pages than fillings in over 1000 pages.
On the other hand, having to look up relevant source code on a computer
instead of reading from a book kind of defeats the purpose, why not have a
pdf then? If I'm reading a programming book, I'd rather have the "fillings"
than not, especially since I don't usually read in front of my computer. If
code is included, I can always skip reading them if I don't want to, so
besides weight, there's no disadvantage to including code and a definite
advantage.
