Don't cut the umbilibal

It seems to me that since DevCo is getting on just fine even before
being spun-off, is there now a need for a spin-off? Since the original
announcement, I have observed a marked improvement in the future
prospects of Delphi and the other Borland tools. I think this because
the direction of DevCo is in the hands of those who love Delphi, namely
David I, Allen Bauer, Anders Ohlsson et al.
With all the uncertainty surrounding the future owner of Delphi, if
DevCo becomes a Borland subsidiary, separate business unit or whatever
the right nomenclature is it will have to fight for itself for market
share. Therefore it will be forced to innovate and maintain quality
products, without the interference of the suits on the Borland board
whose only interest is the next quarter profit and not the long term
prosperity of Delphi (and JBuilder and C++ Builder). By long term
prosperity read Delphi in universities, low-cost or free express
editions, speedy hotfixes and patches, staying ahead of market trends
and most of all rock-solid products.
Thus, Delphi could keep the Borland name and remain in the safe hands
of David I etc. Likewise the ALM group could be a separate entity
owned by Borland, which would prevent it from leeching resources from
the DevCo group.
Delphi provides a path to 64-bit native to and Net development. The
language is second to none in my opinion, as is the IDE. It can be
profitable, but only in the right hands.
If it does spin off: how about B*stard Software Inc? It begins with a
B, and after all that's the kind of son Borland has treated it like for
the last 4 or 5 years.
