Delphi in more schools (was Re: Microsoft here I come)

Bryce, schools are on the agenda, this is a tough nut to crack though,
pricing is not the issue by the way (at least not in Australia), its
courseware production assistance and a very, very attractive MSDN
bundle from MS that includes far more than just Dev Tools that we need
to counter.

I agree, this is a tough nut to crack, but I do feel this should be high up
on the agenda. When I went to college (mid 90s), the 100 and 200 level
classes were taught using Delphi. I went to BYU in Utah, and now their
curriculum is only Java. Even worse, I went down to their bookstore to see
what student versions were available, if they stocked D2005 or D2006. Not
only did they not stock the product, they had no idea what I was talking
about ("Delphi? What's that?"). The only person who knew what it was was a
stock manager who said he'd have to special order it.

I think DevCo should do whatever it takes to court teachers to *want* to use
Delphi in their curriculum. I agree, I don't think pricing is really much of
an issue. I think rather it's just not being taught. John Kaster once
mentioned on a recent tour about getting Delphi into more High Schools. I
think that's a great idea, *especially* if you could couple that with the
colleges in the area continuing to teach. Really good penetration IMHO. At
any rate, I do feel that the evangelists of tomorrow are molded/taught in
school what to evangelize.
