I don't know if, at the time, Tektroniks was "the vendor" of industry or
not (1969 and thereabouts). It would probably depend on the price of
outfitting the EE lab building, the amount of help with training
materials, and the rest of the sales pitch. There was, errr... more than
one scope at the Univ of Texas <vbg>. They certainly weren't the first
company to sell scopes. I bought a couple of Dumont scopes as surplus
military for $20 during that time<g>.

In the late 40s, 50s and 60s I'll bet there were a hellva lot more
Heathkit than Tektronix scopes in school labs.

Right. For all I know they made their headway in that market because they
were in our labs<lol>.

And yeah, I've used the Dumont model 304 scope, it was quite capable,
especially for low frequency work like working with extremely low
frequency under water sound waves produces by explosives.

I don't recall the model number of the ones I bought. They were low
frequency, and vacuum tube based<g>. I got two that worked, along with a
frequency generator, for $20 as I recall. To a geek on a college budget
that was pretty darned good. I'd probably still have them except my house
burned a few years ago.

Trivia test, do you know what business Heath was in prior to WWII?

I heard at one time, and recall it being a bit different, but I don't
remember now. I did, of course, build a couple of Heathkits<g>.
