I wonder at thinking behind that. Two purchases come to mind:
1. Clipper was bought by CA who did not have a competing toolset.
History indicates that the purchase was not a good one for Clipper
developers.
2. FoxPro was bought by Microsoft who did have competing toolsets.
They've looked after FoxPro rather well.
