That's not entirely fair. While I wish CA had done a better job of
moving Clipper code to the Windows world, I think they still did
Clipper developers a huge favor by giving the software a final hurrah
by bundling a bunch of really good 3rd party stuff and getting a very
stable 5.2d/e version.

Sure they bled it dry at that point and had some poor attempts to go
forward with a Windows IDE for DOS Clipper and of course Visual
Objects.

However, if they did not step in, Clipper 5.x would have been stillborn
as a very instable platform as Nantucket would very likely have quickly
folded. As bad as CA was, things could have been much worse.

As for Devco being bought by a private group, that is most appealing as
it will give them greater flexibility by getting out from under SOX as
well as the pressure to fit financial performance into neat little
calendar quarter cubbyholes.
