Actually, the security companies keep telling that your own personnel is
your biggest threat...
My point is:
Since the internet became common, abuse using the internet is also common.
Having more and more data go over the internet is always a threat, your
server-provider might be using private data without you noticing it (who
guarantees that they can be trusted?). If you have your data on a PC that is not
connected to the internet data theft is much more difficult.
It is like passing around a package with some valueable content. The package may
be well secured, so it may be hard to open it and steal the content, but in the
first place this package shouldn't be accessible to the public.
In German we say: "Gelegenheit macht Diebe", meaning "Opportunity creates
thieves".
