The idea is broadly that by delivering software through Web pages or Web
services they can be easily maintained and charged for per-use or per-day.
www.salesforce.com is a good example.
I think those acronyms are becomming inflationary.
I heard of such an idea in the early 90s something called a NET-PC or similar,
with no harddrive and all software and data stored on servers, but apparently it
didn't work.
Isn't that the terminal-thing from the early computing days comming back? I
don't know if I like that.
Also you probably need powerfull servers to run the apps, if not you somehow
have to transfer the executable code, but the again, wouldn't a good update
function serve this purpose better.
One advantage I see, is the developper has better control over the software
usage/can prevent piracy.
