That is an outstanding purpose and goal. But it shouldn't be the /only/ purpose. If it is, than DevCo is missing out on a wonderful opportunity.

I have the impression that no one at DevCo ever imagined that there would be pre-BDS customers would see the Turbo products as a valuable upgrade. That is puzzling, but I'll accept it.

Now that the idea has surfaced, why the resistance? You've asked us for justification. I'd like to know the justification for /not/ providing an upgrade path.

Turbo is not a new product, rather it's a new SKU of an existing product. Do we agree on that?

If we do, then why treat it like a new product? New SKUs have come out in the past. IIRC, Enterprise was introduced with D3 and Architect was introduced with D6. Each time, owners of a previous version could upgrade to the new SKU. So why not now?
