What I have not found answers to:
(apologies if this has been answered officially elsewhere already,
but I have not been able to find any FAQs or detailed written
DevCo Q&A's on this).
I can tell you what my understanding is - don't quote me though ;-):
1. Will there still be a Borland Developer Studio product?
If so, what does it offer that is not covered by
acquiring/installing N Turbo products on the same machine?
Yes.
You can only install one Turbo product at a time.
2. If BDS lives on, how do you explain/justify the difference
between "Turbo Delphi <Pro>" and "Delphi 200x <Pro>"?
BDS200x has all four compilers, not just one.
3. Can I mix different SKU's on the same machine, e.g. one
Turbo Delphi Pro and one Turbo C++ Explorer?
No.
4. Will the first Turbo Delphi Pro release contain any new/unique
features compared to Delphi 2006 Pro?
No. It's Delphi 2006 Pro with SP1 and SP2 and hotfix 1 - 3. The remaining
hotfixes can be applied.
5. Can I use an Explorer-class product to recompile an
application with 3rd party components, provided that the
necessary .dcu's/.dcp's/.bpl's are available?
(accepting that I could not open/edit the 3rd-party
affected forms in the Form designer)
I believe so.
6. Not sure about this 'Turbo' name... according to some
statements,.Borland are primarily trying to score NEW
developers with this, while in fact they're only tickling the
nostalgia of the very oldest of Delphi/Borland veterans...??
My nostalgia was tickled enough to alert others. However I'd prefer the
phrase 'most senior' to 'oldest' ;-)
