Creating a supply of something doesn't create - nor necessarily even
indicate the existence of - any demand for it.

It's certainly a much better indicator (especially considering that
there's multiple tools/deployments for .NET from multiple vendors) than
someone saying it's "irrelevant" without providing any evidence of that
at all.
