Re: Rename Delphi to Turbo Delphi Upgrade to "Special Offier"

By not having special upgrade price
DevCo essential forces you to fork out $499 (for a brand new non-upgrade
Turbo Delphi) or $460 for an upgrade to four-language studio solution.

Exactly.

I use Delphi (been using it for a long time) only for small or personal
projects, because I sadly have to say that the majority of my customers
require MS tools. I never needed nor wanted the multi language Studio,
but I upgraded to BDS 2005 because it was the only option available.
Let me also say that I never upgraded to BDS 2006 because I didn't want
to shell out another 500 Euros for what I - and many people with me,
judging from what I've read around - feel is a minor upgrade and
probably should have been BDS 2005 itself.

Now Turbo Delphi for Win32 is what I'd hoped for for a long time: yes,
the fond memories, but much more, finally a Win32-only application
development environment, which I hope will be fast, lean and focused on
doing well what it's got to do, and no more: the worthy successor to
Delphi 7.

If I am to switch to Turbo - and believe me, I'd really wish to - why
would I have to pay more than upgrading to BDS 2006?

Does that make any sense - at all?

I am willing to spend 250-300 Euros (make it dollars - no one
understands why but the change is always 1:1 when it comes to product
prices) but no more.

If DevCo want me as a "new" customer, or wants many "new" customers
like me, they've got to give people who own older versions of Delphi
the option to upgrade to one of the new Turbos for a reasonable price -
and that's got to be lower than the price of an upgrade to the Studio
environment. It's either that or nothing.

Now the question is: Are DevCo willing to do something sensible, or do
they want to stick to their "philosophy"?
Ultimately, do they want to make money? If the answer is yes, then
that's what they've got to do.

And, speaking about being sensible, I need - I REALLY need - to be able
to purchase the new products online. Please, please make the licenses
available to be bought online.
Please. Pretty please. With cherry on top. Please do.
