Re: Upgrade path to Turbo Delphi

Nick has to speak diplomatically, but I can tell you personally, if I
were in a position to make the decisions, I would not create a new
special price SKU just for a handful of very vocal complainers, who
haven't bought any new product in at least five years, and who will
likely either change their mind about buying anyway, or else be very
demanding about support after the sale. It doesn't sound like a group
of customers worth the trouble of going after.

This is not meant as a blanket condemnation of "pre-BDS" users who are
still on some version of Delphi between 2 and 7; actually, I'm hoping
that quite a few of them will find either Turbo Explorer or Turbo Pro
useful and desirable.

I've complained a couple of times, but not because of any problem for
myself. I know lots of Delphi developers or hobbyists who use Delphi 5, 6,
7 and who have just never seen a reason to upgrade.

I use Delphi 7, but I do plan to upgrade to BDS. So like I said, it's not a
problem for me.

But it bothers me that DevCo, which is starting off with a self-proclaimed
renewed focus on individual developers, would decide againt offering an
upgrade price to TurboDelphi for owerns of previous versions of what is
basically same product SKU (Delphi 1 - 7 Professional).

This is not a renewed focus on the small guy. It's the same kind of big
company marketing mistake that we saw made many times over by Borland.

Just my two cents.
