IMHO, installing a component into Turbo Delphi Explorer using only the
GUI (using only the mouse!!!) does not qualify as a *hack* - it seems
like a hidden, maybe unexpected, *feature*. On the other hand, the
merger written by Andreas Hausladen to create a suite of Turbos is a
hack, as it requires the installation of a software that explicitly
does some internal work.
Andreas got an "approval" for his work from Nick Hodges (Delphi/C#
Product Manager - Borland DTG). Why would Borland/DTG complain about
the installation of components via dclusr? You need the source code in
order to do that, so the binary third-party components are still out of
reach.
My two cents.

Ok, Turbo Explorer got released, and shortly after we see lots of hacks
to work around the limitations it has.
Meanwhile concerns got raised about the morality of those hacks.
My opinion is:
This hacking is the BEST part about the whole Turbo stuff!
Why is that?
It will get people interested. It will get the word spread. It makes the
Turbo
Editions look much more interesting. The more hacks, add-ons, tweaks
get released for such a free product, the higher the interest will be. For
me
this is a clear sign of the success of the Turbo re-launch.
I also think it will benefit DevCo's business in the long run - see, why has
the
Delphi userbase been shrinking during the last years? Because Delphi didn't
get
used by hobbiest, students etc anymore who in later years then took their
experience into the business world. This may now improve.
I doubt this will harm DevCo's sales. If you are using Delphi for making
money,
you'll want the full supported product one day. Also, THIS is imho the point
where the morality comes in sooner or later - one day you'll think "wow,
these
guys enabled me to code cool stuff / generate me an income, so they should
get their share".
At least that's exactly the road I've taken. When I was young and couldn't
afford products, I used cracked software, warezed components etc. And
later, when I had enough money, I bought all the stuff so I was sure the
authors got their share and the things I use kept existing and got updated.
I doubt I'm alone.
So, congrats to DevCo for this success!
