too high, rather than saying the effort was underfunded? (DTG is
hiring)

Some folk might reasonably assess that the cost of producing
a genuinely competitive commercial .NET IDE /at all/ is
impossibly high for any company not called Microsoft.

Which might (eventually) lead to a strategy of fighting them where they
are weak, not where they are strong ;-)
