You cannot install components in the IDE without recompiling it.

That may work for Linux scrappies but I don't have the time to recompile
my IDE everytime I install and/or port a 3rd party component to it.

Pretty bad :( At least it's editor is somewhat nice (SynEdit).


It's because Free Pascal does not support dll packages like Delphi does.
They are supposed to be working on that ability and once Free Pascal can do it, so will Lazarus. It is a pain in the ass to recompile the IDE to install a component, and I have never been able to get it to compile on win32 and only a couple of times on Linux.

Lazarus is not that bad and could be better if more people started using it and contributing to development.
