Just wait until YOU have such a problem. May not seem so ludicrous.
Not all monitor viewing vision problems can be solved with "glasses."

The "young-eyes" developers who use tiny fonts with anemic strokes have

We may be talking at cross purposes here. It is the thought of
carefully structured forms and windows being "bent out of shape"
because the fonts and button sizes etc. no longer match each other
that seems ludicrous as a solution. Why do that when the better
solution, if your eyes cannot cope comfortably with 1920 * 1200 at (a
close) 17", is to use a physically larger (good quality) screen, or
change the overall resolution so that the font is bigger but still in
sync with the rest of the layout. As developers we typically need
larger (or multiple) screens to allow viewing in one part of the
screen what our clients see, while simultaneously viewing some other
associated information (such as source code or fuller database
detail). Just because we are likely, some few years downstream, to
lose the ability to use 1920 * 1200 displays comfortably should not
prevent us taking advantage of it while we can. Let's defer having to
hump second monitors around with our laptops for as long as possible.
If you personally have already reached that age and stage, then just
think of all the extra wisdom and experience you have by way of
compensation.
