But since you do concede that point, wouldn't you also agree that
people that are affected by your registration system are NOT pirates,
but legitmate customers? Thus, except for the ridiculously dumb
pirates, they only people they prevent using your products are your
paying customers.

Personally I dislike activation systems unless they do not in any way
affect how the application runs.

I've heard the argument that some customers need the activiation
system as a way to keep the honest people honest. In that situation,
the software should still fully operate, even if they go over the
limit or fail to activate, because when dealing with honest customers,
a friendly reminder is all that it takes!
