I love D7. It's the best IMHO, but it isn't hot. Sad!
In view of the myopic D7 discussion underneath and as a model for CodeGear
what about this:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/
Open API, can do desktop stuff:
http://www.multidmedia.com/
... yes, I know, "Flash is bad", wrong - a bit of research will show you
it has greater potential than anything in the future.
How about WPF/E support? WPF is actually a really slick platform. Taking a
bit to "get used to" but, in terms of vector based applications that can run
as a stand-alone Windows app, or in a browser (on *nix, Apple, Windows) that
has the Microsoft WPF/E plugin (akin to flash)... and quite frankly, WPF is
designed specifically to run hardware acceleartor based vectors. So even on
OS X and *nix, it is using OpenGL under the hoods... WPF is designed for
application programming much more than the hack they put around Flash.
Or are we so biased against MS that we can't even consider that they might
have a solution that is better than Flash... just not as uniquitous as Flsh?
As much as I like Flex, it is not a cheap platform to develop for (at least
the Flex tools) and after using WPF, which is far more accessible (think
Visual Studio Express is all that is required and a Windows desktop), and it
was much easier to be up and running than with Flex and making better things
with it.
Thanks,
Shawn
