According to the various reviews out there, Vista is systematically slower than XP on the same machine, and this has been our observation too. So your case sounds like an isolated one, maybe you're comparing a brand new install to an old one? Or you forgot to update the XP drivers?
I'm not so sure my observation is all that isolated, others using dual boot installations have reported the same and one guy even reinstalled XP so he could compare them both as newly installed.
And I didn't count this seres of blog entries over a 9 day period by Sam Gentile which starts out with "So far, I'm seriously underwhelmed" and ends with his saying, "It is twice as fast as XP, its way faster and more productive than OS/X, it's UI is leagues ahead of Aqua and I love it for all the reasons that Chris lists here. It's been my daily machine for 2 weeks now and its pretty freaking amazing in how productive I am." Wow! How about those Apples? ;-)
