Re: Delphi Vista for 2007 too?

For some reason, CodeGear keep talking about selling through local

I do not see how eliminating the middle man (and his margin) and
removing the manufacturing + shipping costs (plus the associated
delays) can be anything other than a good thing.

Just how fast do you suppose any major changes in how things are done can be
made? You seem to be of the opinion that, because it hasn't been done yet,
nothing will be and it will remain the same old same old. Though once they
get rolling, I think they will be much more flexible and "nimble" than they
were as a direct part of Borland, there's a *lot* of work to get done in the
short-term just to get things up and running reasonably to start with,
before they can look at making major changes to the various "sub-systems".

So for the *shortterm* they will continue to accept orders via Borland's
system and work to get their own system in place. Same for various other
functions. Personally, I hope, as many others do, that it will be possible
for them to provide direct sales to most, if not everyone, in all countries
instead of having to deal with "local" offices, however the current system
cannot simply be dropped and replaced instantly, and there may also be
legitimate reasons why, at least in some cases, local offices are either
better or *legally* necessary. If the latter is true, then hopefully they
can find a way to improve those local operations to address the common
complaints on prices and service for some of those offices.

As for the web site, they *did not* have 9 or more months to design it,
anyone able to do that work did not have a clue about who would own them or
what their name would be until very shortly (like a day) before it was
announced publicly. While there could possibly be much "plumbing" done for
what will make up the new site (and maybe much of that *has* been done),
*nothing* could be done for presentation, and especially nothing could be
done for ecommerce because the new owners, had that been other than Borland,
might have had or wanted something entirely different.
