Here's an idea for a device I'd like to have:....
a simple lightweight tablet with good touch screen
I'd probably buy something like that for ~$500.
You can buy Dell Axim for about 300-400$ (or one from HP)
Install any Remote desktop management software of your choice (remaining 100
should cover that)

yes, there is OS, but no configuration required other then install RD soft
which will take you a few minutes
.
