Interesting read. He makes some good points but doesn't back the big
ones up with any specifics.
I agree in principle with some things that he talks about like "little
layers vs. monolithically complex", but he doesn't offer specifics in
that context.
One example I would have used is the ASP.NET 2.0 membership api stuff.
AFAIK, it doesn't enable easy interop with WinForms applications. IOW,
there's no comprehensive layer that works independently from ASP.NET for
user membership/roles/etc. I'm also interested in seeing if they can
merge the WCS (Windows Card Space) stuff into the mix or if they'll be
separate islands.
It would have been nice to hear him expand on the "ASP.NET: Wrong
Medium, Wrong Model" section a bit more and really compare/contrast it
with php. I've posted a comment there to that effect.
I just love it when Microsoft gets an ear bashing. And an informative
reasoned response by Eric Lippert. Mentions C# 4.0.
Although I don't believe it's his area, Lippert doesn't address how MS
is going to compete against the agile dev cycle of Rails and Django;
which is what I gather was the main thrust of his blog.
